Week 2: November 16, 2007
Dear Early Winter Shareholders,
We spent the week uncovering all of our hoop house crops, giving them one last watering for the winter, weeding them and recovering them (with spun bonded row covers and clear plastic). Just in time, it seems as it promises to go down to 17 degrees a couple nights next week.
By the end of today we will have harvested all the rest of the carrots and beets and have them in the root cellar for giving them out as long as they last. We have most of the cabbage in, but will finish that today, pick the Brussels sprouts (those are for you this week – just in time for Thanksgiving) and see what is left of cauliflower and broccoli.
We will leave the collards and kale out there to fend for themselves. We will have to see if they can hold out with this more serious cold.
This week you will have some kind of squash again, parsley, cilantro if it looks okay form the field, carrots, Brussels sprouts, your first hoop house mesclun, potatoes, perhaps some cauliflower or broccoli, cabbage, kale, and collards. We are going to sort through the rest of our field radishes also, and see if there is anything tasty there.
We still have pork roasts available for sale. Stop by the house and I can help you. They are $6.25/lb and come to around $25.
I hope that you have a marvelous Thanksgiving!
Julie
