Week 3: November 23, 2007
Dear Early Winter Shareholders,
Happy Day after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a big day around her. We have hosted the entire Kittredge clan for at least the past 20 years. They, as clans have a way of doing, are growing. There were thirty of us yesterday. I am ready to move into another gear now.
This week we will have 1 lb each of potatoes, carrots, beets, a cabbage, a bunch each of collards and kale and some turnip greens and a bunch of parsley for each share. The latter two are from the hoop houses. Despite the temperatures that somewhat erratically jump up and down, both in somewhat of an unseasonable way, the hoop houses are making steady and slow growing progress. I think we should have a nice harvest of spinach by next week, and mesclun too. When the kale and collards and cabbage run out from the field sources, we will start to dip into kale and chard that are growing in the houses. We will have some more Asians too soon, no doubt.
This week on the farm we are focusing mostly on getting the wood in. You will see that large pile by the end of the driveway slowly move into the barn woodshed. Jack and the guys will put the finishing touches on the pond field drainage with the placing of a culvert.
We still have pork roasts for sale. $6.25/lb.
