CSA Week 17, September 24-28
CSA Week 17 – September 24, 26, 28
Dear friends,
Wow, it was cold last night! And it looks to be that way for the next couple of days. Plant growth will definitely slow down, but we still have so many crops to choose from each week, so variety will stay high. I just did an average on poundage for the first 16 weeks and it comes out to 12 lbs. for larges and 7 lbs. for mediums. My promise was for 10 lbs. and 6 lbs. so am feeling good about this aspect of the CSA.
We did have beans for the larges last week, and of high quality, but the season is late so there won’t be beans this week for larges – maybe some for the mediums. We will see. Sorry to miss the peppermint and thyme for Monday. We are always very time pressured on Mondays as this is our biggest CSA day and we also have a large order to Living Earth, so we sometimes just run out of time. We will endeavor to get you those perennial herbs this week, Monday folks, but may have to sub in spearmint due to quantity issues.
I am very happy to offering a lot of different perennial herbs this year. You will see sage and rosemary on the list this week. Many thanks to Clare who lovingly started and raised many of these seedlings for a 65th birthday present for me. And now we have more diversity on the farm.
Codie joins the staff this week. He is a new farmer from the Dismas Farm and we area excited to have his help. We are so short staffed! Lydia hurt her knee and sadly had to leave us.
