Our Publications

This is a memoir of our lives and sometimes risky decisions. We relate our early years, meeting and raising kids, and building the farm, the organic movement and a healthy community. We didn’t always go along with what most Americans were doing, especially in the areas of diet and health care, employment, debt and consumerism, energy use, and culture. In this book we explain what we did, why we did it, and how it turned out. We hope it is both entertaining and helpful to people wanting to fashion a purposeful life.

    Rumination

May 26, 2025 Rumination I know that we all do it from time to time, but for me, the week before the CSA begins, I always fret about whether we will have enough to put into share bags. But for crying out loud (as the sky has been doing in an unrelenting fashion this month),…

  • Natural abundance

May 19, 2025 Natural abundance Justin and I were planting flower boxes and talking about life and its marvels on Friday on the top deck of the house. I mentioned to him that though I don’t have any flower boxes in my cultural history, for some reason at the age of 24 as a young…

    Rain

May 12, 2025 Rain When I said that the week before last was the best week of the year, I didn’t expect to say that the next one would be the worst week of the year. But by Saturday, when I took the following pictures, about a quarter of the farm was under water. Fortunately,…

The Best Week of the Year

May 5, 2025 The Best Week of the Year What didn’t bloom this week? A few plants that set flowers here this week include violets (taking over the lawn in purple), dandelions (taking over the fields in yellow), pears, peaches, plums (already started last week), Juneberries, grapes, and a couple of early apples. And because…
