Our Publications

This is a memoir of our lives and sometimes risky decisions. We relate our early years, meeting and raising kids, and building the farm, the organic movement and a healthy community. We didn’t always go along with what most Americans were doing, especially in the areas of diet and health care, employment, debt and consumerism, energy use, and culture. In this book we explain what we did, why we did it, and how it turned out. We hope it is both entertaining and helpful to people wanting to fashion a purposeful life.

    In the Comfort of Others

When we have a chance to delve deeply with others who our craft, it is immensely comfortable. This week I was lucky to welcome back on Monday Pete Herceg, a staff member in 2022 who is now farming with his partners at Rattleroot Farm in Princeton. On Tuesday Kerisa Perazella, who owns a farm in…

Good Neighbors Make Good Neighbors – Matt Kornn

October 2, 2023 Ecstasy is a Full, Deep Involvement in Life – John Lovell It could have seemed impossible to keep these words foremost this past Monday and Friday, where we experienced long and steady rain from start to finish. But then how many people are so lucky as to be able to work in…

  • Food Preservation

    Food Preservation

It is beyond me why preserving food together is a most magical and spiritual experience, but Saturday’s gathering of 20 folks from all over Eastern and Central Mass reached new heights for me as we worked our way through 20 cabbages, 5 gallons of garlic, a crate each of parsley, tomatoes and tulsi, 3 packages…

  • Immigrants

    Immigrants

Jonathan, our farm staffer who is also chair of the Sutton Selectboard, was confronted with a crisis a couple of weeks ago when the state let Sutton know that 86 recent legal immigrants from Haiti would be dropped off at the Red Roof Inn on Route 146 in Sutton. The past two weeks have for…

  • When Big Change Comes

    When Big Change Comes

All of us experience big changes in our lives at some point or points, and many times we aren’t particularly up for it, but such is life. We often just don’t have control over the big stuff. I really thought that Clare Caldwell and I would go on farming together here for the rest of…
