Our Publications

This is a memoir of our lives and sometimes risky decisions. We relate our early years, meeting and raising kids, and building the farm, the organic movement and a healthy community. We didn’t always go along with what most Americans were doing, especially in the areas of diet and health care, employment, debt and consumerism, energy use, and culture. In this book we explain what we did, why we did it, and how it turned out. We hope it is both entertaining and helpful to people wanting to fashion a purposeful life.

  • Farm Dog

    Farm Dog

Not too long ago every farm had a farm dog, if not two or three. They, like a barnful of cats, were assumed to be a critical part of the farm workforce. Call us old fashioned, but we still hold by this tenet that we need to have these farmworkers/pets in order to be successful…

    Cleaning

Cleaning I am not sure if this is just a “girl” thing, but I get the extreme urge to clean up the house, the barns, the farm, etc. in the fall. But then, precisely because I am a woman who came of age when the 1960’s – 70’s version of women’s liberation was peaking (I…

  • The Community Meal

    The Community Meal

As it turns out, I spend more than 10 hours per day either growing food and caring for its stewardship, preparing it to eat or put by, cleaning up after its preparation and serving, or thinking and studying and discussing with others how to do all of this better. And I am not even Italian!…

  • Sacred Reciprocity

    Sacred Reciprocity

What an incredible week it has been. Each day has featured time with some wonderful folks on the farm. Here is just a small slice. Earlier in the summer, we got a call from Ryan looking for some certified organic piglets. As it turns out, they are in very short supply, because most folks don’t…

  • Zip Up

    Zip Up

As life has settled down a bit on the farm, I have gotten back into some healthy routines that I have no problem following in the winter, but which fall to the wayside in the busy summer months. Concurrent to dropping these practices my old challenges of weak knees and sore hips and fatigue soon…
